Cascate di Stanghe or Gilfenklamm gorge

The sound of rushing water, the thunder of waterfalls and narrow wooden bridges and steps leading across and up - this is the Cascate di Stanghe or Gilfenklamm gorge not far from Vipiteno. The narrow gorge in the rock face is one of the most beautiful natural spectacles in South Tyrol and is the only marble ravine in Europe. The water has cut a cleft, 15 m deep in places, into the white marble rock face. The Gilfenklamm gorge has been accessible for a century or more and offers breath -taking views into the depths of the torrent. Since the steep track through the wild gorge is well secured, even children can walk there without danger.
